One of the most important aspects of traveling is the food, and sometimes you can research so much that you end up falling into tourist traps and throwing away your money, your taste buds, and your stomach.
That’s not going to happen in Interlaken, so here are some of the best places to eat in Interlaken recommended by locals!
Swiss Restaurants
- Stadthaus
The restaurant is located in the old town (Unterseen), which is over 100 years old. It’s about a 10 minute walk from downtown, but you’ll see a different Interlaken as you stroll through the laid-back streets of the old town. The prices are a bit on the high side, but it’s worth it to dine in a restaurant with history!
If you go to this restaurant, be sure to try the “Cordon Bleu” or “Rösti”!
Opening Hours: Everyday 11:00 – 22:00
The address: u. Gasse 2, 3800 Unterseen
Taverne(Hotel Interlaken)
If you’re looking for an atmospheric, romantic dinner in a Swiss restaurant, this is the place to go. There’s a great selection of wines, and you can even choose a mini cheese fondue as a starter if cheese fondue is a bit much for a meal. The main courses are luxuriously plated and the portions are bigger than you’d expect, so you get a lot of value for money!
Opening Hours: Everyday 7:30 – 10: 30 / 16:00 – 22:00
(Wednesday 7:30 – 10: 30)
The address: Höheweg 74, 3800 Interlaken
Burger & European Restaurants
-
Asllanis corner
It started as a small takeout and is now a big handcrafted burger restaurant with a terrace. Just hearing about it, don’t you think the taste is guaranteed? It’s hard to find an empty table from opening to closing time, so it’s a good idea to make a reservation in advance or avoid lunch or dinner hours as much as possible… The burgers are bigger than you think, so if you’re going with friends, you might want to order one of the menu and just a burger to share.
Opening Hours: Everyday 12:00 – 21:00
The address: Höheweg 94, 3800 Interlaken
Des Alpes
The chef and owner of OX restaurant have opened this new restaurant, which has been a local favorite for a very long time, and the locals have been flocking to it as soon as it opened. If you go to this restaurant, you should definitely try the steak or the tartare made with cows raised in the Swiss countryside. It’s located right in front of Höhemate Park in the center of Interlaken, so you can easily see the Jungfrau in the distance and our paragliders landing up close. If the weather is nice, be sure to eat on the terrace!
Opening Hours: Everyday 9:00 – 00:30
(Kitchen opening hours: Everyday 11: 30 – 22:30)
The address: Höheweg 115, 3800 Interlaken
PUBS
-
Brasserie 17
It’s an atmospheric bar with a British pub feel and live concerts every week. As befits a pub, they have a wide variety of finger food, burgers, and a menu of the month, so it’s a great place for a casual evening with a beer. If you’re overwhelmed with beer choices, try the beer of the month, which has never failed in my personal experience!
Opening Hours: Mon – Sat 8:30 – 00:30 / Son 16:30 – 00:30
The address: Rosenstrasse 17, 3800 Interlaken
Huesi Bierhaus
In high season, there are actually more tourists than locals, so there are often no seats available, but locals sometimes go there after work because they can have a spare ribs or schnitzel, a Swiss-style pork cutlet, for a reasonable price. If you like fruity beers, try a älska with your food – it’s a bit sweet, but the lemon & strawberry beer is a taste sniper!
Opening Hours: Wed – Thu 13:30 – 23:30
Fri – Sun 12:30 – 00:30 / Mon, Tue Closed
The address: Postgasse 3, 3800 Interlaken
Asian restaurants
Little Thai
This Thai restaurant is a great way to soothe your tired taste buds after a long trip to Europe. From the interior of the restaurant to the chefs are just Thailand itself, so you’ll really feel like you’re in Thailand. Plus, they have a great selection of draft beers to try. It’s a bit far from downtown Interlaken, but the place is always packed with locals in the evenings.
Opening Hours: Wed – Son 11:00 – 14:00, 17:00 – 22:00
Mon, Tue Closed
The address: Hauptstrasse 19, 3800 Mattei bei Interlaken
Minari
Last but not least, we can’t forget about Korean restaurants. This is a relatively new Korean restaurant in Interlaken, but it’s spreading like wildfire, and I’ve seen people waiting in line for their turn. In fact, the prices are not cheap compared to other restaurants in town, but since it’s a grill restaurant, the meat is provided by the highest quality butcher in Interlaken, so the price is bound to go up. If you would like to try something totally new, this is the place to go!
Opening Hours: Everyday 11:30 – 14:30, 17:30 – 21:30
(Break Time 14:30 – 17:30)
The address: Centralstrasse 13, 3800 Interlaken
We will see you in beautiful Interlaken!
